My currently serialized work, “Raising Our Three Children and Becoming Foster Parents to Fourteen” (実子3人を育てながら14人の里親になりました), has been selected as a finalist for the 55th Japan Cartoonists Association Award, hosted by the Japan Cartoonists Association (a public-interest incorporated association).

I work as a manga artist and illustrator.
I pour my passion into drawing heartwarming comics and gently warm illustrations that put the viewer at ease.
I love to travel, visiting all kinds of places and weaving those experiences into my work. Based in Akashi, Hyogo, Japan.
I work across a wide range of media — magazines, books, free papers, corporate booklets, and the web.
I value finding the right expression for each medium, and keep working across many genres.
Through the works I draw, I hope to deliver warmth and comfort to everyone who sees them.

An Illustrated Self-Introduction
Hi! I’m Kaori Akamatsu, an illustrator. I adore plush toys — and even though I’m a bit stiff and have a delicate stomach, I’ve published 4-panel comics and wellness books.

A devoted bookshop lover, I teamed up with a UK-based writer to create a book introducing British bookshops.

I love ballet and dried sweet potato, and grew up in the countryside of Hyogo. I also illustrated an astronomy book made easy and fun for children.

I studied law at university…
After graduating I worked job after job and changed careers, working nonstop… until I finally became the illustrator I am today.
